Porteña, the vibrant London-born tribute to Buenos Aires street food, is entering an exciting new chapter. After winning the hearts of locals and visitors at Borough Market since 2009—and later bringing its bold Argentine flavours to Brixton Village—the beloved empanada makers are expanding once again. This time, Porteña is planting deeper roots in South London with the opening of its brand-new empanada factory in Bermondsey.
The new Bermondsey space marks a significant step for Porteña. What began as a small stall inspired by the energy, warmth, and culinary spirit of Buenos Aires has grown into a London favourite, known for its authentic techniques, high-quality ingredients, and unmistakably Argentine soul. The factory will allow Porteña to craft more of their much-loved empanadas while ensuring the same level of care, tradition, and passion goes into every fold, every filling, and every flavour.
Bermondsey—an area long connected to London’s food craftsmanship and innovation—offers the perfect home for this next phase. With its rich industrial history and thriving community of artisan producers, it mirrors Porteña’s own journey: rooted in tradition, yet always evolving. From this new kitchen, Porteña will continue to supply its Borough Market and Brixton locations, while also opening the door to new collaborations, events, and ways to bring Argentine street food to an even wider audience.
